KINDERGARTEN
2012 in Kindergarten is off to a great start! The children began the year with excitement, as they became involved in all of the fun activities for Catholic School’s month.
In Religion, we’ve learned all of our basic prayers, read many Bible stories and have come to know Jesus as our friend and Good Shepherd. As the season of Lent approaches, we will talk about how we can grow and change to become more like Jesus every day.
It’s amazing to see how all of the children are developing a love for reading! We’ve read many plays, poetry and short stories. The children are beginning to recognize, spell and write several sight words. In Phonics we are practicing our beginning sounds and can’t wait to meet the next Superkid!
We have explored the Arctic region and learned about penguins in Science. In the coming months we will explore and experiment with magnets and dinosaurs.
In Mathematics, we have been learning to add and subtract numbers to ten. What a big step! Next, the children will begin to count money and explore time. We can’t wait for the 100th day of school! The children will create crowns with 100 different shapes and patterns, count and measure to 100 and eat a special “100-Day Gorp.”
We had a fun time exploring Native American art. It was so much fun to create a giant totem pole, make our own rain sticks, pottery and pictures to display for the art show. We learned a lot, too!
We have many exciting events to look forward to in the upcoming months. Valentine’s Day will be filled with hearts, valentines and special friendships. In Social Studies we will compare the lives of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. We will celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss in March with stories, rhymes and games. On St. Patrick’s Day we will read about the life of St. Patrick and leprechauns.
We continue to learn new skills and grow each day in Kindergarten!
