With a new classroom location at the St. Peter campus and rearranged tables and fresh paint at the St. Francis campus, we are ready to start the year!
The classes at the St. Francis campus are already under way. The third grade is familiarizing themselves with WARM vs. COOL colors and the effect they have on their compositions. They are doing this by coloring a picture of Puss and Boots, with a COOL color background and an area of interest in WARM colors. The fourth grade is working on their drawing skills. They are completing a picture of the big bad wolf blowing away the three little pigs. Their creativity and imagination is being used to complete the picture. The seventh and sixth grade are combined this year for ART. The energy in the room was great as this group attempted simple animation. The inspiration was the use of Dr. Suess characters for their simplicity and animal/human qualities. The goal was to learn how to make a character move through a series of steps. The eighth grade is trying their hand at optical illusions. Starting with simple geometric shapes, circles and squares, the students are designing pictures that appear to move due to the positioning of lines and use of color. They were surprised how easy it is to make a complicated design when you break it into smaller pieces.
Art begins at the St. Peter campus on Thursday and our focus will be color. Color wheels and mixing primary colors to create new colors and touching on some color terminology such as complimentary and monochromatic color.
We are looking forward to a year of new creative discovery!
